No-exam life insurance
Which applicants qualify for accelerated decisions, how the process works, and what happens if you do not qualify for it.
Many insurers now offer accelerated underwriting, which means they make a coverage decision using your application, pharmacy history, traffic records and other data instead of requesting a medical exam. A decision can sometimes come within hours. Each quote on this site notes whether the product requires an exam, might require one depending on underwriting, or has an exam waived.
What it changes
Skipping an exam does not skip underwriting review. The carrier verifies your statements, and a policy issued based on incomplete answers can be contested within the first two years. If the carrier's additional research flags questions, it can still order an exam or labs; you decide then whether to move forward.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, this applies to people under sixty with amounts within the carrier's accelerated limit, without major chronic health conditions and with no tobacco use within the past year. If you had a recent doctor visit with lab results, some carriers will accept those instead of ordering a new exam.
If an exam is part of the underwriting process, a medical professional will visit your home or workplace in the Anaheim area for a short appointment (usually twenty to thirty minutes) at no charge. Healthy applicants often see their rate improve after exam results, so an exam requirement is not necessarily a drawback.
